RISIS-KNOWMAK covers the following geographical spaces at the national level (countries) and the regional level by using an adapted classification of the NUTS3-level by EUROSTAT, which deals with some inconsistencies of the NUTS3 classification and includes the definition of EUROSTAT metropolitan regions. This classification has been selected as the best balance between an adequate regional classification and availability of data.
Geographical spaces are linked to data sources through a specific location table, which links the locations identified in data sources and in the actors’ table with the spatial units adopted. Users therefore can retrieve indicators at the country and region levels, respectively to benchmark subsets of regions.
